How could we all benefit from the promise of stem cells - today?
Occasionally, stem cell breakthroughs in medical research are widely discussed by the media. By now it has become clear that there are three major stem cell approaches available now as we wait for wider acceptance and availability of groundbreaking works. While the media and even research groups or individual physicians occasionally question the viability or credibility of novel approaches, this is to be expected as most of the stem cell related work is pioneering and not yet established by mainstream medicine. What has been found, however, is that adult stem cells treat over 70 diseases while there has been no successful, reliable treatment protocol based on embryonic stem cells.
Hematopoietic Bone Marrow Stem Cell Transplantation
The oldest and most established stem cell procedure is the hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, pioneered by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center ( Seattle, Washington, US) in the 1960s and 1970s, led by E. Donnall Thomas, M.D., whose work in bone-marrow transplantation was later recognized with a Nobel Prize in Medicine (in 1990). Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation remains a risky and expensive procedure (over US$100,000) with many possible complications. It has traditionally been reserved for patients with life-threatening diseases such as leukemias, lymphomas, myelomas, anemias, radiation poisoning, etc. The risk of serious or fatal complications, plus the price tag, appears to be too high to gain wider acceptance. Therefore, stem cell transplantation remains the choice of the desperate and the rich.- Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation – with stem cells collected from peripheral blood
With the availability of the stem cell growth factors GM-CSF and G-CSF, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation procedures can now be performed using stem cells collected from the peripheral blood, rather than from the bone marrow. Over 50 clinics worldwide use this procedure to treat a very wide range of diseases. - Nutritional food supplements boosting adult stem cell count in peripheral blood
This is the most attractive way for most people to have immediate access to the benefits of stem cells. Most physicians don’t know about this option since most of them are not familiar with the stem cell boosting choices available and consequently they won’t suggest any of these to their patients. Yet, there are about seven stem cell boosting products available on the market (as of 2010).
The most interesting part of these food supplements is that all of these companies claim an elevated level of adult stem cells in the peripheral blood, yet, none of them share with their customers the actual level of stem cells if a customer stays on a product for months and years. Visit my blog where I discuss this problem and try to find solutions.
Why would telomeres be important?
A telomere is the end tip of the DNA at the end of a chromosome, which protects the end of the chromosome from deterioration. During cell division, enzymes that duplicate the chromosome and its DNA cannot continue their duplication all the way to the end of the chromosome. If cells divided without telomeres, they would lose the ends of their chromosomes, and the necessary information they contain. The telomeres are disposable buffers blocking the ends of the chromosomes and are consumed during cell division and replenished by an enzyme, the telomerase reverse transcriptase. The level of stem cells in the blood and the length of the telomeres emerged as the two most profound anti-aging biomarkers that might be linked to the biological age of the individual. Stem cell test is provided by www.stemcellcount.com and telomere test is offered by www.repeatdiagnostics.com. However, join the global Stem Cell & Telomere Study to have access to these tests for a ‘below wholesale’ price.
The 2009 Nobel Prize in medicine was awarded to Americans Elizabeth H. Blackburn, Carol W. Greider and Jack W. Szostak for discovering how chromosomes protect themselves as cells divide by the telomeres.
Why doesn’t my doctor suggest a stem cell booster for me?
Neither physicians nor the public are properly informed about the great potential (and the limitations) of the stem cell boosting food supplements. The feedback from doctors and consumers is exciting. However, this new, promising field runs into a series of challenges. If and when the first goal, the elevated stem cells are proven, then the question is the length of elevation that might be maintained with the continuous taking of the given food supplement. None of the companies can confirm with reliable research data that it has any benefits to take the supplements continuously since the supplement increases the quantity (and hopefully the quality) of circulating stem cells without the harming or depletion of the bone marrow.
It’s like ‘hitting a horse to run faster and better without feeding the horse.’ We are the first company that has developed over the years a premium food supplement line (StemDetox™, StemEssentials™, StemGlyco™, and StemSupreme™) that focuses on bone marrow wellness with a holistic view. This Stem-Line ‘feeds the horse’ by providing building blocks for the production of new stem cells in the bone marrow, after a deep, cellular detoxification (StemDetox) that should be the first step of any holistic program. Any organ that has been detoxified would function better and in this case the detoxified bone marrow could produce more and better quality stem cells.
What are stem cell enhancers?
Recent scientific developments have revealed that stem cells, derived from the bone marrow, travel throughout the body and act to support optimal organ and tissue reparation that is an on-going function. Stem cell enhancers, such as StemSupreme™ Morning & Night are food supplement products that support the natural role of adult stem cells.
What is unique in StemDetox™, StemEssentials™, StemGlyco™, and StemSupreme™ Morning & Night?
The state-of-the-art Stem-line is a breakthrough, the first holistic products specifically designed to support stem cell wellness through the
- detoxification of the bone marrow
- building of new stem cells by providing key building blocks
- protection of circulating stem cells, and
- release of stem cells from the bone marrow
This Stem-line of products are the very first on the market to support the bone marrow and the stem cells with long-term sustainability in mind.
Why do I need these products?
As you age, the number and quality of stem cells that circulate in your body gradually decrease, leaving your body more susceptible to injury and other age-related health challenges.
Just as antioxidants are important to protect your cells from “free radical” damage, stem cell enhancers are equally important to support your stem cells in maintaining proper organ and tissue functioning in your body.
What are stem cells?
Stem cells can be thought of as “master” cells. You’ve probably heard about the controversy of embryonic stem cells in the news. Stem cells are found in human embryos, but are also found in adult tissue.
Adult stem cells are most abundantly found in bone marrow. Stem cells circulate and function to replace dysfunctional cells, thus fulfilling the natural process of maintaining optimal health. The Stem-line of products supports the release of adult stem cells from bone marrow into circulation.
The recent advances in stem cell research were listed as one of the most significant health-related stories in the past 25 years by CNN, second only to the complete mapping of the human genome.
What is the Stem Cell Theory of Renewal?
The Stem Cell Theory of Renewal proposes that stem cells are naturally released by the bone marrow and travel via the bloodstream toward organs and cells in need. When an organ is subjected to a challenge, this organ releases biochemical signals that trigger the release of stem cells from the bone marrow. The organ also releases compounds that attract stem cells to this organ. The released stem cells then follow the concentration gradient of these compounds and leave the blood circulation to migrate in the organ where they proliferate and differentiate into cells of this organ.
Stem cells released by the bone marrow are responsible for the constant renewal of red blood cells and lymphocytes (immune cells) and a few stem cells are actually pluripotent that has the potential to become any cell type in the body. The amount of active bone marrow amounts to about 2,600 g (5.7 lbs), with about 1.3 trillion marrow cells.
Why do we hear much in the news about embryonic stem cells and very little about adult stem cells?
The first human embryonic stem cells were grown in vitro, in a Petri dish, in the mid 1990s. Rapidly, scientists were successful at growing them for many generations and to trigger their differentiation into virtually any kind of cells, i.e. brain cells, heart cells, liver cells, bone cells, pancreatic cells, etc. When scientists tried growing adult stem cells, the endeavor was met with less success, as adult stem cells were difficult to grow in vitro for more than a few generations. This led to the idea that embryonic stem cells have more potential than adult stem cells. In addition, the ethical concerns linked to the use of embryonic stem cells have led to a disproportion representation of embryonic stem cells in the media. But recent developments over the past years have established that adult stem cells have capabilities comparable to embryonic stem cells in the human body, not in the test tube. Many studies have shown that simply releasing stem cell from the bone marrow can lead to optimal health.
Unfortunately, even today, some scientists claim that adult stem cells can’t have ‘developmental plasticity’, they can’t give rise to ‘nonhematopoiatic cell fates’. In other words, these scientists claim that adult stem cells can’t differentiate into cell types other than blood cells.
This is, of course, not true!
It was repeatedly documented that a small population of adult (hematopoietic) stem cells maintain regenerative potential for other tissue types, beyond the regeneration of blood cells, and maintain the potential to differentiate into other cells, such as hepatocytes (liver cells) or Pukinje cells (some of the largest neurons in the brain).

How does an increase in the number of circulating stem cells lead to optimal health?
Circulating stem cells can reach various organs and become cells of that organ, helping such organ regain and maintain optimal health. Recent studies have suggested that the number of circulating stem cells is a key factor; the higher the number of circulating stem cells the greater is the ability of the body at healing itself.
Can stem cell enhancers deplete the bone marrow? Do we have a finite number of stem cells?
Yes, stem cell enhancers can potentially deplete the bone marrow. The holistic approach represented by the Stem-Line of products is a real breakthrough in the stem cell wellness field. None of the stem cell enhancing products, currently available on the market, were tested for their stem cell enhancing capabilities over weeks, months and years. (The Stem-Line is currently tested. The results will be shared and published once it becomes available). One product (Stem-Kline) was tested over a two week period and while the stem cell count went up to an extra 50%, by the end of the test period the number of circulating stem cells were close to the baseline level. The fast fall of the stem cell count suggests that by the third week of the study the number of circulating stem cells were actually lower than the baseline stem cell level before the supplements were taken. It’s even possible that the study was quickly terminated once the researchers have realized that the stem cell numbers are falling fast. Of course, we don’t know the reason for the abrupt stopping of this experiment, however, either the study should have been extended or the suggested taking of this food supplement should be changed (e.g. take it for two weeks, but don’t take it for the following two weeks when you give a chance for the bone marrow to recover).
What we can confirm here that the practical short and long-term implications of stem cell enhancing food supplements should be seriously studied. And if the manufacturers of these products are not going to do further studies due to a level of fear of the study outcomes, doctors and health-conscious individuals should pool their efforts and do pilot studies. Indeed, the availability of the Stem Cell Test is a ‘game-changer’ (www.stemcellcount.com). Maybe even class action suites will target companies in the future who claim that their product enhance stem cells (and suggest that individuals should stay on their products ‘forever’), yet, the actual study results might confirm a reduction of stem cells for a period of time! Honesty and clarity is needed.
The implication of the Stem-Kline study is profound. This study indicates that the approach represented by Stem-Kline (take our product long-term without interruption) is not desirable if the goal is to maintain an elevated level of circulating stem cells. A holistic approach is more desirable when the bone marrow is nurtured and supported through detoxification, by providing building blocks for the generation of new stem cells, and by protecting the stem cells. Further, intensive research should clarify the great paradox of stem cell enhancers; - how to avoid the lowering of the stem cell count while an individual is taking a stem cell enhancer over a longer period of time. Otherwise, bone marrow weakness or anemia might develop that can have far reaching negative implications.
What happens to stem cells if they do not reach a tissue?
Stem cells released from the bone marrow that do not reach a tissue simply return to the bone marrow after some time.
Can the Stem-Line product be taken by children?
The ability of stem cells to be released by the bone marrow and the quality of the stem cells released by the bone marrow both appears to decrease with age. Therefore, one might conclude that children have an effective stem cell based repair system and do not need stem cell support. Yet, we have received compelling testimonials suggesting that the Stem-Line products could bring significant benefits to individuals below age 18.
How will I know if it is working?
Most people will notice within several minutes to a few weeks that they have a greater sense of well-being. It is common for people to notice health benefits within a few weeks of beginning StemDetox or StemSupreme. Everyone is different. For some the benefits appear slowly over a period of months. Others notice improvements almost immediately. The intent is to improve overall health.
How long should I take the Stem-Line of products?
The honest answer is that we don’t know. There is no long-term study published about the various effects of stem cell wellness related food supplements over a period of months or many years. Considering our bodies did not deteriorate over night it would be foolish for us to expect them to renew and rebuild overnight. The fact is - the more stem cells in are in our bodies, the better our overall health and the quicker our bodies can renew themselves. Most likely you can’t take long-term any stem cell boosting product that has only a few ingredients without some adverse effects. By continuously taking a single ingredient or a few ingredients, no matter the overall safety and benefits of those food ingredients, can have an effect that can create a tipping point over time when the body is unable to properly maintain its homeostasis, its internal balance. Multiple ingredients with their synergistic effects tend to be more gentle on the whole body. The Stem-Line of products was carefully developed with their balanced ingredients to exert their holistic and nurturing effects on the whole body, including the bone marrow. Based on our current understanding of stem cell physiology, this holistic approach gives the best possibility to nurture our stem cells over a long period of time.
Is the Stem-Line of products FDA approved?
No. FDA does not approve dietary supplements in the same way that FDA approves some drugs and medical devices. Nonetheless, FDA does regulate product quality, product safety, and product claims, and has authority to remove products from the market that are not safe or that make claims that are not substantiated by scientific evidence.
What are other ways of increasing or decreasing your stem cell blood level?
Due to the novelty of the concept of supporting the release of one’s own stem cells, little scientific work has been done so far to identify compounds or conditions that increase the release of stem cells from the bone marrow. Ingredients found in StemSupreme help the elevation of circulating stem cells in the blood. Lifestyle factors, such as coffee drinking and smoking, can actually lower your stem cell level.
For whom is the Stem-line of products advisable?
The Stem-Line of products provides the optimal support for the maintenance of optimal health. It is for everyone interested in giving their body an extra boost toward daily renewal of cells throughout the body. It is for anyone interested in supporting his or her body’s natural renewal system.
